Mesquite Independent School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of AVID Tutor.  The appointee will report directly to the AVID District Director.  AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college prep program that serves students coming from the "academic middle".  The AVID course is available for 7th-12th grade students at 6 MISD campuses.  Tutoring is conducted during the school day.  Schools have tutoring either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday and tutoring times vary by campus.  Tutors will be assigned to a school according to the appointee's schedule and the campus needs.  Tutors will work with the same teacher(s) and students each session in order to become an integral part of the classroom.  AVID tutoring utilizes the Socratic Method, wherein the tutor serves as a facilitator.

 

Qualifications:  

 

AVID tutors must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary college or university or be a recent graduate (preference is given to current college students).

Salary:  $12.00 per hour

 

Locations:  North Mesquite High School, West Mesquite High School, A.C. New Middle School, McDonald Middle School, Vanston Middle School, and Frasier Middle School
