Mesquite Independent School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Vehicle Mechanic in the Transportation Department. The appointee will report directly to the Fleet Manager and must be able to perform major and minor mechanical repairs with minimum supervision to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles.
Qualifications:
- The individual selected must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- EPA Motor Vehicle Air Condition Certificate
- At least three years of experience assisting in vehicle repairs and maintenance.
Expectation to be met within six (6) months of hiring:
- possess a Commercial Drivers License-Class A or B with air brakes, Passenger (P) and School (S) Bus endorsements.
- State of Texas StateVehicle Inspector Certification
- First Aid Certificate
- TEA School Bus Certification
Preference will be given to applicants who:
- have a thorough knowledge of all types of vehicle repair, including expertise in the repair of diesel, gasoline and small engines.
- demonstrate the ability to use a variety of hand/power tools associated with vehicle repair.
- possess knowledge of safe working methods and procedures.
- demonstrate the ability to diagnose and analyze vehicle problems and needs in fleet operations.
- are able to work independently and make responsible decisions in stressful situations.
- have experience maintaining accurate records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
- are able to work a flexible schedule as needed.
- demonstrate effective communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
