The Mesquite Independent School District and City of Mesquite are seeking qualified candidates for the position of substitute Certified Medical Assistants in the joint city/school employee health clinic.  Appointees will be placed on an active substitute list and will perform on an as-needed/on-call basis. Substitute Medical Assistants will report directly to the health clinic director and/or physician and will be responsible for the basic care of patients under the direction of the physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner.  Substitute Medical Assistants will work closely with the physician, clinic manager and staff, school and city administrators, employees who are members of the respective health plans, and eligible dependents.

Qualifications:  To be placed on the activie substitute list, Medical Assistants must have completed an approved MA course of study and possess a valid certification.

Preference will be given to applicants who:

--have a minimum of six months experience in the health care industry with a knowledge of basic

   medical terminology and procedures.

--exhibit an understanding of safety principles and infection control in the patient care environment.

--exhibit the ability to perform basic patient care duties in a competent manner within the scope of

   clinically approved skills according to the needs/age of the patient/population served.

--demonstrate the ability to take vital signs and maintain related records.

--possess a thorough understanding of the technical content of the position, as well as the

   ability to apply these skills to health related issues.

--are available as-needed and willing to work a flexible schedule.

--demonstrate effective communication, public relation and interpersonal skills.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration/committee may find appropriate and acceptable.

Salary/Benefits:  Pay Range:  $13.00 - $14.00 per hour
