Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

  • To provide counseling and consultative services to students with special needs, assist campuses with behavior concerns, and assist teachers, principals, and families in correlating school, home, and community agencies for assuring the total development of the students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work
  • Licensure by the appropriate board

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Have knowledge of community agencies that are available to assist families.
  • Exhibit excellent communication (verbal and written), public relation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures for the MISD.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
  • Possess excellent counseling skills.
  • Have training in mental health issues and crisis intervention

EXPERIENCE:

  • None
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assess individuals with special needs for counseling services, and provide individual counseling to students utilizing multiple frameworks (CBT, Solution-focused, etc.).
  • Utilize and reference the DSM for interventions with students with clinical conditions.
  • Work with all school personnel and to assure better understanding and management of students with special needs.
  • Assist in providing information regarding opportunities outside the local school setting, which benefit students and families.
  • Assist parents in locating appropriate service agencies and how to access them.
  • Provide expertise and consultation to campuses that request support in serving the social and emotional needs of students with special needs.
