PRIMARY PURPOSE:

  • To support student and teacher achievement and maintain standards of excellence in curriculum design, instructional strategies, and professional learning in the assigned area of social studies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Master’s Degree Preferred
  • Texas Teacher Certificate
  • Successful completion of Texas Reading Academies (preferred)
  • ESL certification (preferred)

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Respond with initiative and innovation to the assigned curricular area needs of students and teachers.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers in enhancing classroom instruction through TEKS alignment and best practices.
  • Develop high-quality and timely professional learning based on student/campus data and related to district, state and national goals, initiatives, and legislation.
  • Respond with initiative and innovation to the assigned curricular area needs of students and teachers.
  • Maintain professional competence in areas of responsibility, curricular focus including state standards and assessment.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a variety of audiences.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures of the MISD and the district’s mission to develop and inspiring and innovative community that educates and empowers students to pursue excellence.
  • Exhibit highly effective organizational and consensus-building skills.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to articulate clearly and knowledgeably the goals and standards of the district curriculum and initiatives.
  • Successful experience with curriculum design and development.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies and current research related to content area.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Successful experience as a teacher in assigned curricular area
  • Experience planning and presenting professional learning for adults.
  • Experience serving in a campus leadership role (preferred).

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Coach/model/support classroom teachers in the planning and implementation of district curriculum, district initiatives and best practices.
  • Collaborate with district staff and outside professionals to provide high quality professional opportunities for teachers, support staff and administrators.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and provide direct support for various districtwide field trip opportunities.
  • Assist campus leadership with the alignment of TEKS and supporting high quality instruction through PLCs, learning walks and data meetings.
  • Analyze test results (if applicable) and utilize student data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching-learning process.
  • Establish and maintain clear communication and collaborative relationships with district leadership, campus administrators, teachers, and support staff.
  • Collaborate as a member of the district curriculum team
  • Collaborate as a member of the district curriculum team including the development and maintenance of curriculum materials.
  • Support personal growth and development through MISD’s Leading Through Ownership model.

Physical demands/environmental factors:

  • Intermittent walking, sitting, and standing
  • Occasional warehouse visits to inventory merchandise and occasional lifting, moving of up to 20 lbs.
  • Travel within district and state
  • Prolonged and irregular hours
  • Getting supplies and/or staff development materials delivered to appropriate locations
