PRIMARY PURPOSE:

  • Provide leadership for the instructional programs of the district, grades 6th - 12th by facilitating programs and systems that support the educational progress of students and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Master’s Degree (preferred)
  • Texas Teacher Certificate

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Possess knowledge and experience in curriculum systems, including design, and backwards planning
  • Possess knowledge and training in supervision
  • Possess knowledge of the Effective Schools Framework
  • Possess an understanding of assessment practices and procedures
  • Exhibit evidence of data-driven decision-making skills
  • Understanding of the instructional material and selection process
  • Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a variety of audiences
  • Knowledgeable preparing and evaluating reports and records
  • Ability to interpret data to evaluate program effectiveness
  • Advanced level of working knowledge of TEKS
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures of the MISD.
  • Demonstrate highly effective organizational and consensus-building skills.
  • Possess knowledge of technology and its value in enhancing academic achievement.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills

EXPERIENCE:

  • Successful experience as a teacher in assigned curricular area.
  • Successful experience as an instructional leader at the campus or district level

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of system-wide curriculum resources for a variety of experiences and levels
  • Collaborate with district staff and outside personnel to provide high-quality learning opportunities for MISD staff
  • Lead department new hires through a Teaching & Learning onboarding process
  • Support growth of department members by targeted professional learning and coaching
  • Prepare district wide professional learning information for the Teaching & Learning Department, ensuring catering and special needs are addressed
  • Conduct research and develop the educational program designed to meet both the state standard and community needs
  • Directs the development, and implementation of district wide curricular programs, projects, and activities
  • Comply, interpret, and implement school policies established by state and federal law, State Board of Education rule, and local school board policy related to Teaching and Learning
  • Utilize the coaching model to grow and support coordinators and/or facilitators
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders to provide instructional programs that improve achievement of ALL students
  • Evaluate the grading and reporting system to ensure that district policies are appropriately followed and recommend changes when needed
  • Develop, conduct, or arrange professional learning sessions for district and campus staff in relation to instruction and compliance pieces
  • Serve as a content expert and consultant to administrators at all levels
  • Analyze test results and utilize data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching-learning process, oversee and support DCP creation and review
  • Support campuses through PLCs, learning walks, and data meetings
  • Support coordinators in the work of vendor vetting, curriculum/DCP feedback, and in creating systems that help the Teaching & Learning department more effective and efficient
  • Consult in revising or adding courses per state requirements and system requirements
  • Participate in the district-level decision making process to establish and review the district’s goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs of the district
  • Evaluate and implement high-quality instructional materials, including textbooks and digital resources
  • Participate in professional organization meetings in specified curricular content areas.
  • Assist in the implementation of policies of the MISD
  • Serve as a liaison between TEA, Region X and MISD
  • Work on special projects as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent or the Superintendent
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Writing routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to meet deadlines from multiple assignment requests on a frequent basis
  • Managing multiple projects, communicating effectively with all publics, and making sound decisions while maintaining emotional control

  • Expecting and reflecting the highest of expectations

Physical demands/environmental factors:

  • Intermittent walking, sitting, and standing
  • Occasional warehouse visits to inventory merchandise and occasional lifting, moving of up to 20lbs
  • Travel within the district and state
  • Prolonged and irregular hours
