Description

(This position is funded either in part or whole through the State Compensatory Education Program and will be evaluated at the end of each year based on the success of the program and the availability of funds.)

 

Mesquite Independent School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Bilingual Tester for the Dyslexia Program.  The appointee will report to the Executive Director - Special Education and will be responsible for testing bilingual students referred for possible dyslexia identification.  The person will work closely with counselors, dyslexia teachers, facilitators, and other district personnel.

 

Qualifications:  The Tester/Teacher for Dyslexia will have a valid Texas Teaching Certificate.  Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) is preferred.

                     

 

Preference will be given to applicants who:

 

  • have at least five years of successful teaching experience at least 3 of those teaching dyslexia intervention
  • demonstrate a cognitive understanding of the subject matter and pedagogical skills in his/her teaching field
  • possess strong analytical skills
  • exhibit effective communication skills and techniques, including verbal, nonverbal, and media communication
  • possess knowledge and understanding of organizational development and conflict resolution
  • demonstrate highly effective organizational and consensus building skills
  • understand the value of planning and demonstrate ability to develop and implement short and long range instructional plans based upon effective instructional strategies
  • possess knowledge and understanding of technology and its use to enhance student achievement
  • understand the various learning styles and show competence in developing and delivering instruction appropriate to students’ developmental needs
  • understand cultural diversity and show evidence of providing and delivering instruction appropriate to diverse cultures and populations, learning styles, and background experiences
  • demonstrate an understanding of the recommendation, assessment, identification and instruction of students with dyslexia as outlined by TEA in the state Dyslexia Handbook
  • possess knowledge base for utilizing and interpreting multiple forms of appropriate assessment measures for the identification of dyslexia
  • possess knowledge and understanding of the English Language Learner as it relates to dyslexia
  • exhibit understanding of the core principles of Response to Intervention as outlined by TEA in the Dyslexia Handbook
  • possess knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures of MISD

 

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

Pay Range:  Teacher Salary Schedule; 187-day contract
