Description

Mesquite Independent School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Licensed Specialist in School Psychology.  The appointee will report directly to the Executive Director - of Special Education Services and will be responsible for conducting formal evaluations of the intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students to determine the eligibility for special education services.  The appointee will also participate in ARD meetings to determine placement and Individual Education Plans for students and consult with students, parents, and school district personnel.

 

Qualifications:  Master's Degree and valid license issued by the Texas Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology.

 

Preference will be given to applicants who:

 

  • Texas Teacher Certification Preferred
  • have a profound knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines, and procedures, including special education
  • have a successful experience as an LSSP in a public school setting
  • exhibit skills in administering psychological assessments, evaluations, and feedback
  • have knowledge of child development and human behavior
  • possess knowledge and sensitivity to the impact of diversity issues as related to student achievement and mental and behavioral health
  • demonstrate expertise in behavior modification, along with a strong background in behavior management techniques
  • demonstrate effective communication (verbal and written), public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • possess strong analytical and organizational skills

 

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

Salary:  Pay Range:  Counselor/Diagnostician scale; 191-day contract
