Mesquite Independent School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Safety and Security. The appointee will report directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services and will be responsible for managing, directing, and administering the daily operations, programs, and functions affecting the safety, security, and emergency preparedness of District campuses and facilities ensuring that all staff and students enjoy a safe and secure learning environment.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- maintaining and filing all reports to the Texas School Safety Center
- maintaining the District’s Multi-hazard Emergency Operations Plan
- assisting with the development of security for district events
- coordinating disaster and emergency preparedness
- serve as a liaison with all safety and security inspectors, regulatory and enforcement agencies
- provide risk and threat assessments
- supervise and evaluate assigned staff, etc.
The Director will work closely with central office personnel, campus/departmental personnel, district personnel, governmental agencies, and the community.
Qualifications: The Director will be a former or currently Licensed Peace Officer or federal law enforcement agent.
Preference will be given to applicants who:
- Have professional certifications in security-related fields
- Have experience in law enforcement at the command level
- Possesses strong leadership, communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills
- Understands the School Resource Officer (SRO) program
- Have a bachelor’s degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, or a similar degree related to school or safety administration
- Has experience in directing school safety and emergency management operations
- Has experience developing training options to ensure effective operations in the area of safety and security
- Understands the Texas Education Agency’s Safe and Supportive Schools Program and bullying
- Understands the requirements set forth by the Texas Education Agency and the Texas School Safety Center as it relates to school safety

Salary: Pay Range: Administrative Compensation Plan pay grade 7; 226 days ($104,200- $145,000)
