Mesquite Independent School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Family Support Therapist. The appointee will report directly to the Director of Counseling and will be responsible for providing intensive counseling to students and families who are identified as having critical needs or being in crisis, in order to prevent dropouts, decrease discipline at school and disruptions at home.
Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Counseling or a related field; professional licensure in counseling or a related field; LPC, LMFT, or LCSW required; certification in EMDR preferred
Preference will be given to applicants who:
- have successful experience in treating trauma, family systems, crisis intervention, mental illness, chemical dependency and how these issues impact behavior and learning
- exhibit a high level of skill in counseling techniques and strategies along with conflict resolution and facilitation skills
- exhibit compassion and understanding for families in crisis
- have knowledge of agencies in the community that can be used to assist families
- possess strong analytical and organizational skills
- exhibit skills and knowledge in working with high needs/high risk populations
- demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
- exhibit excellent communication skills (verbal and written), public relations, and interpersonal skills
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
Salary: Counselor Salary Scale; 212 days
