Mesquite Independent School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Teacher - Visually Impaired (CTVI) and Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS). The appointee will report directly to the Executive Director - Special Education and will assist schools in meeting the needs of individual students. The person will work closely with campus administrators, teachers, and other special education/district support personnel.

Qualifications:  The teacher must have a valid Texas Teacher Certificate in the designated area of Visually Handicapped and have a valid certificate in the area of Orientation and Mobility.

Preference will be given to applicants who:

• have had successful teaching/student teaching experience in a public school setting
• have knowledge of effective instructional strategies and techniques
• demonstrate an understanding of technology and its impact on instruction
• exhibit the ability to work well with students
• have an understanding of and compassion for children with special needs
• have knowledge of special education policies and procedures
• possess strong analytical and organizational skills          
• demonstrate effective communication, public relation and interpersonal skills

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.

Salary:  Pay Range:  Teacher Salary Schedule + $3,000 stipend; 187 day contract
