Mesquite Independent School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of intervention counselor Agnew Middle School.  The appointee will report directly to the campus Principal and will provide prevention, intervention, counseling and support services for identified students as an integral part of their total emotional, personal, social, vocational and educational development, so they may function successfully in an academic environment.  The counselor will also coordinate transitional services from discipline placements, mental health and substance abuse placements, and from other alternative programs.  The person will provide leadership and expertise in crisis situations involving the counseling team. 

Qualifications:  Master's Degree in counseling with a TEA Counselor certificate or mental licensure - LPC-I,                                                     LPC, LCSW-I, LCSW, LMFT.

Preference will be given to applicants who:

• have successful experience as a school counselor or working in a mental health agency
• have experience in addressing mental health issues in an educational environment
• understand the link between trauma and behaviors and decision making
• have extensive training or experience in working with adolescents who experience mental health issues, including suicidal ideation, psychosis, PTSD, and other mental health concerns
• demonstrate an understanding of family dynamics, alcohol and drug abuse, and crisis intervention
• possess knowledge and expertise in family dynamics, self-injurious behavior, substance abuse, victimization, anxiety and depression
• expertise in recognizing and reporting child abuse, Section 504, juvenile justice system and the role mental health in these areas
• demonstrate effective communication, public relation and interpersonal skills
• show strong initiative in impacting the school culture by creating a Trauma Informed, SEL rich environment

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.

Salary:  Pay Range:  Counselor schedule; 196 day contract
