Mesquite Independent School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of AVID Tutor. The appointee will report directly to the AVID District Coordinator. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college readiness program that serves 7th-12th grade students at secondary MISD campuses. Tutoring is conducted during the school day, twice a week and tutoring times vary by campus. Tutors will be assigned to a school according to the appointee's schedule and the campus needs. AVID tutoring utilizes the Socratic Method, wherein the tutor serves as a facilitator.
Qualifications:
- Minimum high school diploma or currently enrolled in a post-secondary college or university (preference is given to current college students) or recent college graduate
Responsibilities:
- AVID tutors support middle and high school students enrolled in the AVID elective course by facilitating AVID tutorial/study groups under the guidance of an AVID elective
- Collaborate with AVID teachers, students, other teachers and the District
- Facilitate the tutorial learning process using AVID guidelines and implement other AVID
- Knowledgeable in all academic core areas; math, science, social studies, ELAR.
- Establish and maintain rapport with students for the purpose of serving as a role model to students.
- Allow students to assume the responsibility for their own active learning while guiding them with strategies that build independence.
- Maintain a professional relationship with all staff
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and
- Communicate regularly with the AVID coordinator/teaching regarding student progress and areas of concern.
- Participate in all required training, professional development sessions and meetings for the purpose of collaborating with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation and revision of the AVID College & Career Readiness System.
